‘And let us not forget that a large cross section of our voters still do not have access to jobs, clean water, housing, Â schools, infra-structure, comprehensive transport, accessible healthcare and basic minimum wage!
And truly, this is the reason why I believe that a people sensitive Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will instruct Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) to scrap the contentious and controversy filled 100-storey Warisan Merdeka project!’ – Dr Jacob George
100 STOREY BUILDING – NAJIB WILL DO THE RIGHT THING – JACOB!
Sitting Members of Parliament need to decide if they want to be victorious when the national General Elections are eventually called, perhaps, in the first half of 2011?
State Assembly Men and Women have ‘a reprieve’ perhaps, as only Parliament may be dissolved and not the respective state governments!
Whether this political strategy is adopted or not, one thing is certain – it will be rather challenging 13th General Elections where the criterion used to select candidates will be under in-depth scrutiny!
The political and personal profile of individuals will be the litmus test!
You do not have to spend millions to seek ‘political Intel’ from foreign lobbyists or strategist to know this!
To put it simply – what is pertinent is whether politicians and public policies initiated are truly representing the rights, interests and needs of the voters they are supposed to represent in a democracy!
Gone are the days when voters look at the party symbol and vote in total idiots or political shenanigans whose interest is personal and private!
Gone are the days when you can also threaten voters with myopic, personal and racist political views carefully inbuilt in nationalistic fabrics as they today fool no one!
If you think pouring in millions in construction projects prior to elections is the right thing to do – think again, as they are also no vote winner!
So what is the ingredient?
My Boy Scout view is – we need good decent and upright candidates, free from the controversies and one willing to address the interests of the grassroots!
Not just the interest of the party, political warlords, the GLCs, not the construction industry, the developers, the private interest or foreign financier or political predators but that of the average voter!
I am certain political spin masters have tried to justify the 100 floor Warisan Merdeka  project in their blogs but truly they can spin whatever they want for ‘a fee and honorifics’ but the truth is the heads that will roll are not theirs but that of the candidates standing in the next General Election!
They can also suggest an alternate blog where alleged support is manufactured!
But these actions are in vain!
Remember you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that public policies and its engagement must revolve and have in its being the interests of the voter wherever they are!
5 billion ringgit to start with (before variation orders kick in) is a lot of money whether it is in private hands or the government!
And let us not forget that a large cross section of our voters still do not have access to jobs, clean water, housing, Â schools, infra-structure, comprehensive transport, accessible healthcare and basic minimum wage!
And truly, this is the reason why I believe that a people sensitive Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will instruct Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) to scrap the contentious and controversy filled 100-storey Warisan Merdeka project!
Najib will also need to address the controversies created by highway and water concessionaires!
He must also advice politicians within the camp to be intelligent enough not to make stupid idiotic statements – even presumably ‘behind closed doors!’
There is no more ‘behind closed doors’ in today’s political climate!
As such, a decision that addresses the interest and desire of the voter will result in a massive snowballing of votes for the ruling party and entrench their hold on the federal government impressively!
Anything less and we will have an upset win not because the opposition is great but because we are arrogant and refuse to listen!
A former Prime Minister paid a huge price for not listening thinking his fourth floor boys and spin masters are articulating grassroots sentiments!
I want to believe that Premier Najib is different and that he will do the right thing – scrap the 100 storey building for what it is – a financial waste in an environment where governments are facing financial turmoil and expecting economies to stay stagnant or worst dip!
