‘In today’s case the business interests have spoken, each giving their timelines but the authorities who are expected to protect life and limb and certainly, public interests have been silent and at best issuing a cautious statement!
Yes indeed, that was a cautious statement and one I welcome by the Supply and Price of Gas head of Energy Commission, Roslee Esman who is reported to have stated that investigation was continuing to find the cause of the explosion and that it will take between one to three months to know the cause.’ – Dr Jacob George
CONSUMERIST: KEEP SHUT EMPIRE GALLERY TILL AUTHORITIES SAY ALL WELL!
The fact is four people were hurt in an early morning explosion at the Empire Gallery shopping mall in an explosion that was heard from as far away as Bangsar!
The 3.45am explosion blown out nearly the entire stretch of the front portion of the newly-built mall damaging several cafes, restaurants and clothing stores.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with police, ambulances and the fire brigade still on the scene.
Police tracker dogs were also present, as were Fire and Rescue Department personnel from stations across Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Damansara and Puchong to investigate the incident.
According to authorities the blast was believed to have started in the basement and involved a gas pipeline.
That has now being confirmed as the source and cause but the jury is still out whether it is safe to reopen for business as usual!
So I personally find the statement by Empire Shopping Gallery general manager May Woo to be quite distasteful when she says that the said business premise is expected to reopen in a month?
Interestingly she has it all figured out perhaps after checking with her crystal ball of sorts when she is alleged to have said that the ‘first 10 days will be to clean up the foyer area and pedestrian walkways (common areas) while the remaining 20 days is for tenants to do renovation at their store’
That they ‘expect the shopping mall to be open to the public in one month. Preparation is underway to reopen this shopping centre,”
Interestingly she was not alone as group manager of Empire Hotel Ricky Ho is reported to have stated that the ‘Empire Hotel was ready to welcome guests back after voluntarily halting operation as precautionary safety measure following the explosion’
He went on to add that – ‘the unfortunate incident has resulted in the hotel cancelling all reservations made for accommodation and banquet at least until Oct 15,”
For once the politicians from both divides have remained tight lipped, even one, who I had repeated clash over the years because CASSA received complaints and feed backs from those who had locus unhappy with attempts to turn Subang Jaya into another Manhattan Skyline rejecting environmental, crime, infrastructure, traffic disposal system and quality of life issues!
Of course when you voice out as I have over 37 years, in the public interest and policy rightness, you become the target of those who have vested interests and they did their worst to hurt me on all fronts!
They of course succeeded in some and failed in others!
In today’s case the business interests have spoken each giving their timelines but the authorities who are expected to protect life and limb and certainly public interests have been silent and at best issuing a cautious statement!
Yes indeed, that was a cautious statement and one I welcome by the Supply and Price of Gas head of Energy Commission, Roslee Esman who is reported to have stated that investigation was continuing to find the cause of the explosion and that it will take between one to three months to know the cause.
That reports by the Fire Department and Energy Commission will reveal the actual cause of the explosion as they are looking at various angles!
So my advice is that public interest and safety must be paramount and not the timelines given by business interest!
The last thing we need is another explosion, this time with mortality!
