BN GOVT URGED TO LEARN FROM S’PORE’S PAP!

‘What is the use of having a cabinet reshuffle if the end result will see the retention of the old tired, recycled, brainless and baggage filled faces being returned!

What is the use of having national elections if in the end political warlords dictate with old tired, baggage filled and alleged ‘corrupt individuals’ as candidates!

It is all about peceptions!

What is the message?

Basically, what we are saying is that in Malaysia we have no younger men and women, academically qualified with a comprehensive track record and zero baggage to be made election candidates and ministers?’ – Dr Jacob George

BN GOVT URGED TO LEARN FROM S’PORE’S PAP!

Despite spins by politically connected spin-masters, Premier Najib Abdul Razak has denied reports that he would reshuffle the cabinet and call an early election, saying these are merely rumors and reports!

Let us put straight the record!

This is about good governance, accountability, transparency and ethics!

What is the use of having a cabinet reshuffle if the end result will see the retention of the old tired, recycled, brainless and baggage filled faces being returned!

What is the use of having elections if in the end political warlords dictate with old tired, baggage filled individuals as candidates!

Yes, warlords and they are a very powerful instrument in party politics!

And believe me they are alive and well and cross them and politically you will have ‘hell to pay!’

It takes someone with political courage, a statesman, one who is thinking of the nation rather than one’s own political tenure to make such decisions!

A classic example lies not far from Malaysia.

You do not have to break the Berlin wall to find a classic example to emulate.

I am referring to the government of Singapore under the People Action Party (PAP)

Look at the political ingredients they use to pick young, clean, qualified, track record candidates for election and eventually taking on the cream and gifted into their Cabinet!

This is the trade initiated by its founder Mr Lee Kuan Yew!(see above)

Even appointments into town councils see a talent pool in itself!

No one gets in by the ‘back door’ or because he is a political warlord let alone if he threatens to sabotage both party and government for his own political agenda, greed and contentment!

Res Lipsa Loquitor – Singapore’s success is based on this philosophy!

There is no compromise here!

Across this side of the causeway – we are predictable!

There are no surprises as we see the same old, tired, blank faces that are recycled repeatedly!

It is a photo copy of our present civil service where the retention of the same ‘old farts’ does little to inspire or motivate professionalism!

You can have all your KPIs and other fancy titles using public finances to organize seminars and conference to turn a dead horse into a prize stallion!

It will fail and it is better to use those funds elsewhere where we can see results!

But of course political expediency will see to that that such silly seepages and routines continue.

We need to justify those fancy titles and portfolios do we not?

So I am not surprised to hear that ‘old farts’ of politics will be made roaming candidates with ‘ministerial status’ just to appease a certain agenda and for ‘political expediency’ instead being told to retire! Period!
If they are not made such they are made head of GLCs or to head commissions?

So vulgar and a sheer abuse of political power!

Basically, what we are saying is that in Malaysia we have no younger men and women, academically qualified with a comprehensive track record and zero baggage to be made election candidates and ministers?

This is why I pray that Prime Minister Najib will do what is most necessary – to retire the majority of the non performers and ‘old farts’ in the Cabinet, State political leadership, State and Parliament seats and set up a select committee to source the best in the country to fill that vacuum for the sake of the nation’s future in a very competitive global village!

This is a must to steer the nation to greater heights!

CLASSIC – ANOTHER ROAD STUDY TO JUSTIFY MILLION RINGGIT TOYS?

‘If the said study done is to justify some private entities recent multi million ringgit proposal to purchase more software, hardware of other million ringgit toys and for its implementation, commissioning, and costly maintenance as it is always done then it is not only misleading but an embarrassment that certain cross sections would want to manipulate statistics for a particular agenda!’ Dr Jacob George

CLASSIC – ANOTHER ROAD STUDY TO JUSTIFY MILLION RINGGIT TOYS?

This is a rerun!

I have addressed this matter so many times before!

If the authorities are really interested in saving lives why there are still heavy vehicles and public transport operators especially buses allowed speeding along our highways and by-ways?

Why is a crony bus company constantly speeding along Federal Highway daily?

Why has there being no action taken against operators whose heavy vehicles have created accident scenarios on our roads when parts of their rethreaded tires are thrown all over?

Why are there vehicles that are certainly old and not road worthy on our public roads?

Basically it is this: Lessons have not being learnt at all by certain quarters who have failed to realize that not only the Malaysian political thinking and demography has changed there are also today elected representatives  who know the woods from the trees!

But no, certain cross sections think that the old ‘bull-shit’ still sells!

So we have first the modus operanti where a ‘think tank’ or ‘outsourced research entity’ will conduct a study!

The study will state that Malaysia incurs billions of ringgit in losses each year due to road accidents with the rate increasing every year!

We will be told that in 2008 alone, the country recorded losses amounting to RM7.8 billion due to road accidents, which was equivalent to 1.5 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP)!

We are also told that in 2009, 6,745 road users died as compared to 6,527 road fatalities in 2008, of which 60 per cent were motorcyclists and pillion riders!

But what is the answer to this problem?

If the said study done is to justify some private entities recent multi million ringgit proposal to purchase more software, hardware of other million ringgit toys and for its implementation, commissioning, and maintenance as it is always done then it is not only misleading but an embarrassment that certain cross sections would want to manipulate statistics for a particular agenda!

It has been done before many times and today it is counter productive!

The last time I was briefed on the matter was in a special briefing session at parliament where again such statistics bandit around only to get smashed by a very alert group of lawmakers!

The session was waylaid and the presenters told to ‘shut up’ and that the answer to saving lives on the roads is not just the draconian amendments to the Road Transport Act with punitive fines, sanctions but in the concretizing of the Malaysian masses through various mediums from the electronic and print media to the organizing of seminars, conference and talks in and around the country!

1. We need to review present licensing practices and ask whether we need to raise the age limit for license application eligibility!

2. The should be stricter and higher duty of care and requirement for those seeking to drive heavy vehicles and those involved in public transport!

3. We need to have a data base to look at drivers of both public and private cars and most importantly of buses, Lorries and other heavy vehicles and its operations!

4. We have to start to regulate drastically the operators of public transport be they lorries, buses, carriers of inflammable contents and have a special data base so that repeat offenders can be penalized by blacklisting and owners punished!

5. We need to ban the practice of using retread tyres especially in the heavy vehicle and public transport sector.

6. We need to comprehensively revamp the Road Transport Department (JPJ) which is an embarrassment – put mildly!

But I am certain this is not what certain quarters want!

What they want is ‘business as usual’ – the ‘big time designations and fancy titles and ‘think tanks’ with the presentation of ‘bull-shit’ research and data to justify the spending of millions of the rate payers monies on expensive toys recommended by industry players and politicians?

Got my drift?

SHAH ALAM’S JALAN TUDM U2 ROAD- A CONTRACTOR FROM HELL?

‘ These days everyone is a contractor!

‘There are rumors that this project was awarded to the brother of a former main politician in Selangor and is this true?

Can we have the guardians of this project either from the federal government or State please, answering my pertinent questions?

Perhaps, if you want I can volunteer to take you on a guided tour raising along the way, my many concerns to show that this is in the public interest!

And while on this subject, can the Selangor State Government please tell us who have been awarded the project for the construction and maintenance of the traffic lights in Selangor? – Dr Jacob George

SHAH ALAM’S JALAN TUDM U2 ROAD- A CONTRACTOR FROM HELL?

Flashback – The Golden decent, honest years of the late 50’s!

When I grew with my grandparents in Sungei Petani’s Kampong Raja gardens, we used to have a regular contractor, grass-cutter and furniture maker from whom my late grandfather will do business!

One thing I realized was each of these men was dedicated and knew their job well and did that job with a sense of competency that is unheard of these days!

Once they have parted with their views my grandpa, the late George Philip, an educationist, nothing more need to be said either of the cost involved, the duration of the work, let alone its quality!

It is a done deal!

We do not hear of the horror stories we hear of these days!

These days everyone is a contractor and everyone has a license but what is the quality of their work?

Whether it construction or development or even town planning are there still decent competent honest men (and Women) out there?

First of all, I want to ask the Selangor State government who awarded this project and appointed the contractor to undertake the present upgrading of the Jalan TUDM just off Taman TTDI Jaya Shah Alam?

And who is auditing this stretch of the construction project?

It is shocking to see the state of affairs of the said construction, the time taken, the quality of the work and the issues pertaining to road user safety!

There are rumors that this project was awarded to the brother of a former main politician in Selangor and is this true?

Can we have the guardians of this project either from the federal government or State please answering my pertinent questions?

Perhaps, if you want I can volunteer to take you on a guided tour raising along the way my many concerns to show that this is in the public interest!

And while on this subject can the Selangor State Government please tell us who have been awarded the project for the construction and maintenance of the traffic lights in Selangor?

First of all an impression is created that there is absolutely no planning where the lights are planned and its justification!

It is like Shah Alam for example is going to be the City of Traffic Lights very soon and may run for a Guinness World Record!

Secondly another observation!

Something is terribly wrong here as after every heavy downpour all we witness is the breakdown of these lights?

Who is so auditing the quality of the spare parts, its specifications and its costing?

I want to say no more safe to say something is terribly wrong here!

I hope the Government of Selangor would answer my plain questions the soonest possible dates!

HIRING FOREIGN DOCTORS – FOOT IN MOUTH HEALTH MINISTER GOING NUTS!

Dato Jacob George

‘If my memory serves me well it was a nightmare experience then!

There were problems in communication, quality, arrogance and work attitudes, and an inability to conform let alone understand their role in the system or how our health system works!

Basically, they were on ‘holiday’ at our expense!

And did not the government go on record saying ‘never again’ – to this practice then? – Dr Jacob George’

HIRING FOREIGN DOCTORS – FOOT IN MOUTH HEALTH MINISTER GOING NUTS!

Let me be frank!

As far as I am concerned, he is the @worst Health Minister, Malaysia has had and I just cannot understand why Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak still keeps him in this portfolio!

Recently he made another of his usual pronouncements which again confirms that there is a lack of consistency, clarity and conviction in the manner the present health minister runs his ministry!

No, I am not talking about the ‘special treatment and favors’ or ‘political interference’ his office is alleged to be involved in when politicians or “MCA members’ are the incoming patients which puts pressure on our over taxed healthcare system, its schedules and available manpower!

There are many allegations but I will not go there just yet safe to address his comments on the hiring of doctors from countries like Egypt, India and Pakistan!

This is a controversy that we have addressed when then another stupid small pea brained policymaker decide that the answer to the doctor shortage is to herd in as a quick fix doctors from these developing countries!

If my memory serves me it was a nightmare experience then!

There were problems in communication, quality, arrogance and work attitudes, and an inability to conform let alone understand their role in the system or how our health system works!

Basically, they were on ‘holiday’ at our expense!

And did not the government go on record saying ‘never again’ – to this practice then?

If I remember it was Health Minister, Dr. Chua Soi Lek, @the best health minister Malaysia has ever seen who announced the government’s then decision to stop hiring foreign doctors on employment contracts.

I remember and did concur with his statement then that there had been several complaints about the work habits, inadequate skills and poor health conditions of the foreign doctors.

Then there were 698 foreign doctors in the country who were on three-year contracts.

And if I am not mistaken since 2003, the contracts for 118 doctors, including 43 from Pakistan, 36 from Egypt and 20 from India, had not been renewed.

So can someone in the health ministry please enlighten me why is the health minister walking on this sharp, narrow and foolish path again?

Whether it is a government to government initiative or not, I am not bothered as it makes no difference and so why are we re-opening the doors to foreign doctors from Egypt, India and Pakistan?

If there is a need let us facilitate the employment of the spouses of Malaysians who have the academic qualifications after a short assessment?

Or what I really promote is the health ministry to move away from the foolish and stupid short term, quick fix measure of employing from Egypt, India and Pakistan and hire specialists from the developed countries like the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand!

Yes, we need to pay them big bucks but the returns will be brilliant as they can ‘multi task’ and bring in a higher professional level of service thus upgrading drastically the professional and competency levels at our hospitals both service and teaching!

The problem is we are pea brained – we want a quick fix – like a drug addict – a cheap quick fix so we initiate a program looking yet again to other developing countries and give it a spin as if the countries of Egypt, India and Pakistan are doing us a favor!

It is the usual ‘bodoh sombong’ attitude all over again!

To this I say health minister – enough is enough!

Since I am on a roll I must as well screw the health ministry on another note!

No, not about the controversial scandal filled Shah Alam hospital where our ‘political puritans’ do not have the courage or conviction to address or arrest ‘individuals – both the high and the mighty and their cronies’ for alleged ‘corrupt practices’ thinking we ordinary Malaysians are so stupid!

I am citing the allegations that there is a major shortage of essential drugs in several of our hospitals in the country!

I thought after I rammed on this issue in the early 80’s and got the under wears of the then senior heath ministry officials soiled it would never be repeated but I was wrong!

I hope policy makers and those in the Finance Ministry should know that the health ministry is different from other ministries and they should be given leeway when problems emerge on the availability of essential drugs!

You cannot have a standard operating procedure like the local purchasing order (LPO) being craved out in stone saying all purchases must be in within a set date and requests afterward will not be entertained!

This is ridiculous as it means all hospitals will have to stop treating and operating on patients due to the unavailability or worst to ask the patients to purchase the said drugs from outside!

Or hope that the Premier Najib Tun Razak will end up a patient in that hospital like he was recently in HKL and Selayang and noted that the HKL – ICU was in a mess and immediately facilitated the funds to address that need!

Thank you Prime Minister Sir but what about those entrusted to address these issues?

This is certainly not the Premier’s Job! He has far greater issues to address nationally and globally!

I sincerely hope policy makers address issues professionally and not with a political spin and motive!

And I would like to advice the ‘little Napoleons’ at the EPU, the JPA and the Treasury to be more proactive and less bureaucratic and assist the Ministry of Health in its plans to serve Malaysians with a service which is second to none in the world!

Cut the red tape – stat!

You get my drift?

OUCH! SHAH ALAM HOSPITAL – OUCH! STEALING FROM THE PEOPLE?

‘We are yet to address what is turning out to be a horrendous state of affairs and a clear abuse of power, corruption, lack of governance and total disregard to accountability!

I am surprised that our usual ‘puritans’ – the ones who cry out loud in the racists newspapers have inexplicably refrained from commenting on this abuse and scandal!

Their conscience on medical leave?

I am flabbergasted that despite the exposure of confidential documents by well known blogger and human rights activist Tengku Raja Petra Kamarudin (Pete) which has a trail of information enough for indictment nothing seems to be happening?’ – Dr Jacob George

OUCH! SHAH ALAM HOSPITAL – OUCH! STEALING FROM THE PEOPLE?

I hate two faced individuals no matter who they are!

Especially those who hunt with the hounds and run with the hares!

So I state clearly that the stench emanating from the allegations surrounding the construction, commissioning and maintenance of the new Shah Alam hospital is getting unbearable and yet there seems to be an elegant silence on the part of those named as greedy and corrupt and others totally incompetent for allowing such an alleged abuse to take place, yet again!

By a stroke of a pen yet again politically connected parasites are made billionaires all over the nation!

I cannot but wonder why all those self righteous VVIPs, politicians and alleged statesmen and their friendly editors in the mainstream newspapers have yet to address what is turning out to be a horrendous state of affairs and a clear abuse of power, corruption, lack of governance and total disregard to accountability!

I am flabbergasted that despite the exposure of confidential documents by well known blogger and human rights activist Tengku Raja Petra Kamarudin (Pete) which has a trail of information enough for indictment nothing seems to be happening?

Or is there? Really?

What more with its usual pronouncements of political and religious rhetoric’s, beatitudes, sermons on governance, zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of power, accountability and where opposition politicians are harassed over allegations of mere thousands and a death of a politician’s assistant under the most bizarre circumstances but nothing apparently done to address this major embarrassment to the most developed state in the nation and to the administration of Premier Najib Tun Razak (above) who is bent on eradicating corruption in its many forms and shape in the country!

According to the documents so far released several pertinent questions are being asked by all Malaysians just not those living in Selangor!

If this continues unabated how will the people respect those in authority especially those making very self righteous pronouncements from time to time aided and abetted by senior compatriot Editors!

How to win ‘hearts and minds’ when there are VIP thieves stealing in broad daylight again and again and again!

You cannot have two sets of rules/laws in a nation of now enlightened voters already politically fed up with such mismanagement and high powered corruption at the expense of the ordinary people who are struggling with bread and butter issues!

As we celebrate a holy and Blessed celebration today we need to once and for all rid the nation of its players of double talk and corruption and pave the way towards good governance, accountability, ethics and transparency!
