MUKHRIZ TOLD – IGNORE BANKRUPT POLITICIANS!

‘Working hard is the formula – not fighting for political posts and contracts and when not given whining and crying out aloud!

Or worst, making baseless allegation and political threats!

As Mukhriz stated – it is work, commit yourself to dedicated and sincere work and the electorate will back you!

But only sincere dedicated individuals will understand the formula – not political pretenders and adventurers! – Dr Jacob George

MUKHRIZ TOLD – IGNORE BANKRUPT POLITICIANS!

I am deeply happy to learn that dear friend, Mukhriz Mahathir has being made deputy chairperson of the Kedah Umno liaison body!

As I have repeatedly stated Mukhriz has always worked hard, delivered, looked at the bigger political picture and practices an open revolving door system to all and sundry!

As far as I am aware, he has always gone an extra mile to help assist anyone who brings an issue to him irrespective of one’s race, religion, political affiliation and so forth!

He is among the young and new, who must take lead positions to pilot the nation’s politics and its delivery system on solid ground.

The last time we met was in Parliament where we exchanged pleasantries since both of us have our roots in Kedah, mine being Sungei Petani!

I am indeed delighted that despite personal and baseless attacks and political irritants creating a ruckus Mukhriz is focused on delivering to the electorate!

And he puts it brilliantly when he stated that:

“The formula is simple… we do our work well and they will recognize it. The task is to resolve the people’s problems one by one and strive to improve their standard of living.

“If this is achieved, it is hoped that they will support us in the coming 13th general election!”

As a Consumer Advocate with over 35 years of experience and track record I cannot but concur!

That is the formula – not fighting for political posts and contracts and when not given whining and crying out aloud!

Or worst, making baseless allegation and political threats!

As Mukhriz stated – it is work, commit yourself to dedicated and sincere work and the electorate will back you!

But only sincere dedicated individuals will understand the formula – not political pretenders and adventurers!

SUZUKI CUP HOLIDAY BAD CALL!

‘After a 14 year wait – True everyone loves a winner!

It was but pathetic watching some Malaysian politicians ‘past and present’ falling over each other trying to bask in the glory that was certainly not theirs but that of the present FAM leadership, the dedicated and hardworking coach and the committed and hardworking boys who became men showing true grit, skills, sacrifice, determination on a night of challenge!

I am sure that they know that the same tongues that are singing praise today will turn on them when they fail! – Dr Jacob George

SUZUKI CUP HOLIDAY BAD CALL!

The counter at the Shah Alam Court closed exactly on the dot at 10.00am refusing to take any submissions/filing citing the public holiday as an excuse!

Legal clerks and lawyers were fuming and this has an impact on their case and since it is all about dates – and – how fast one gets justice they were more than upset all around!

I am certain the situation was the same all over the country and while our obese public sector rejoiced over another day without work – the private sectors screamed as they have datelines to meet and this public holiday will have its impact on them financially and otherwise!

Banks became suddenly packed and chaos ensured!

The jams all around were brought forward by 24 hours!

Two industry captains told me that they are re-locating to another ASEAN country in 2011 not far from us in view of many hurdles from lack of manpower, red tape, bureaucratic hassles, corruption, delays and plain lack of support!

So much in wanting to be world beaters, KPIs and wanting to create a competitive atmosphere here!

So much for drawing in the talents?

Yes, we did win the cup – after 14 years – finally!

What is Suzuki Cup or the Tiger Cup as it was formerly called?

It was a mere regional tournament with only 10 participating countries where none of them are in the top 50 FIFA rankings.

I do not want to take anything away from the hardworking boys and more so, their sincere and dedicated coach, a very dear family friend!

And what it is worth, I was one of the many screaming my lungs out at the hotel lobby among hundreds of foreigners in Penang during both legs!

With due respect – as I always say – we have to be consistent, there must be clarity and most importantly, what is the public perception of this announcement and its impact on our work ethics and competitive spirit?

What is the impact of the holiday on private and public sectors and on those trying to close their accounts?

What about banking and logistics?

In the past – we have made history with – Nicol David winning World Titles several times or for that matter Lee Chong Wei winning the All England but there were no public holidays!

And that is the way it should be – we should stop this habit of pampering our sportsmen and sportswomen!

We should learn from China, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, the UK who has just won the ASHES against Australia (no public holiday there!) or the Germans, the Dutch and even Thailand!

Basically to declare a public holiday just because our national team won a Suzuki Cup an ASEAN level competition is pathetic.

And more pathetic is the front page headlines of the following:

‘Garuda makan asap’ – Harian Metro

‘Garuda patah sayap’ – Sinar

We talk about being diplomatic, professional and sporting and I am certain our learned editors some – plain apple polishers and spin masters could have found better adjectives than the above!

I ask these editors what is the message they are conveying to Jakarta?

And for the country another comparative day of work and productivity gone!

And allow me to apologize to the private sector ‘workers’ who will go without receiving their salaries till after Monday because a public holiday was declared in strange circumstances!

But who cares? Really!

SELANGOR SAND THEFT – TIME TO USE THE ISA?

I am sick and tired hearing the political rhetoric from policymakers in the State while the theft takes place in broad daylight, in a highly organized and sophisticated manner!

Who are the hidden hands who are aiding and assisting this theft and crime in the State of Selangor? – Dr Jacob George

SELANGOR SAND THEFT – TIME TO USE THE ISA?

It is true that by plain interpretation Section 421 till Section 426 of the National Land Code does not give any investigative powers to the police on matters of sand stealing but in view of the extent of the theft and cries of public interest it is pertinent that action be taken immediately in arresting all those involved, directly, indirectly, by proxy, those funding and aiding and abetting this theft which is costing the Selangor State hundreds of millions in losses!

Let those arrested challenge the move in the courts and we will be ready for that too!

We cannot allow this heinous crime to go on any longer based on archaic legal reading!

The last few days I was besieged with calls that the thieves have come close to Sungei Damansara and to be exact the Shah Alam TTDI Jaya area?

Today I went down the area concerned and I am concerned certainly as it was a well organized operation!

To be exact Selangor is the hotbed for illegal sand mining in Malaysia and it is estimated that the state may be losing close to RM500, 000 a day from sand stealers and some estimate that the loss is about RM100 Million a year!

And sand mining has been a hot issue in Selangor over the last 10 years with certain quarters alleging that millions of ringgit is being raked in by well organized and connected syndicates.

Among the sand theft hotspots are Serendah in Hulu Selangor, Dengkil in Sepang, Jenderam in Sepang, Kundang, Kuang, Rawang, Kajang, Bestari Jaya in Kuala Selangor, Banting and Bukit Beruntung.

The aspect that is troubling me and I have discussed this with three senior ministers and several other MPs recently and that being the allegations that government officials including from the state, district land offices and enforcement personnel from various other departments were working with the syndicates.

Tomorrow I will seek appointments to brief the Home Minister and another as I view this very seriously!

I will also make an appointment to liase with Mohd Khusrin Munawi (above) Selangor’s newly minted state secretary on this matter so that we will have drastic results instead of pussy footing!

Perhaps, we should use the Internal Security Act to get to the bottom of this matter!

BATU FERINGGHI FIRE – LESSONS FOR ALL!

Dato Jacob George

‘We need to look at the squatter area within as we have all kinds of extensions made – many  certainly illegal!

If the area is a fire trap then we must have the political courage to address this as well without any party politiking or trying to be political heros for the wrong reasons!

And I say this because many of these illegal extensions and building were done long ago under a former very strong political warlord who will go nameless for the moment!’ – Dr Jacob George

BATU FERINGGHI FIRE – LESSONS FOR ALL!

When I called dear friend Premesh of Malaysiakini to alert him on this tragedy his first reaction was –

‘Chief every time you are back in Penang something happens the last tragedy being the Tsunami hit on ‘box-in day’ December 26th!

True, I was right in the smack of it alerting the state and federal government, the PM’s department, the electronic and print media, former Penang CM Koh as  he arrived in New York!

Borrowing my wife’s lap top I set up a communications center and grabed my camera and off  I went doing what I do best – trouble shooting, assisting  and witnessing first hand the horror and rising dead bodies all around as inter state politicians and others on similar holiday ran off cowardly from the hotel I was staying!

I became the point of contact at Batu Feringghi going on TV3 live repeatedly!
Smalll alley for visitors to browse

This time in 2010, I was already trouble shooting on issues from immitation goods and DVDs, CDs, illegal nightclubs, taxi touts, idiotic construction on hill slopes, destruction of the environment, beach bullies and suddenly this comes out!

I must say we need to relocate these night markets too as they have out grown themselves and immitation rejecting consumers wanting to avoid them are forced to walk of the narrow dangerous road putting themselves and their loved ones to danger!

Now to this fire!

It is truly sad and just as my son and I was about to visit dear friend, the Penang State Police Chief, a no nonsense, truly dedicated officer and one I respect greatly – I was caught addressing this tragedy!

It was sad that 2 residential buildings and 37 guest houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Belacan, Batu Feringghi, an area just opposite two lead hotels and one where we were staying!

I must really congratulate the State Fire and Rescue Department (Operation) for speedily sending 35 firemen in six fire engines to address the tragedy.

Though there were no lives lost locals, visitors from other states and foreigners lost personal belongings and their passports!

Since the authorities are investigating the cause of fire I will not say much but there are lessons to be learnt from this and  among them, whether we need to re-look at the area and assess the possibilities for future fires and on safety aspects therein.

We need to look at the squatter area within as we have all kinds of extensions made – many  certainly illegal!

If the area is a fire trap then we must have the political courage to address this as well without any party politiking or trying to be political heros for the wrong reasons!

And I say this because many of these illegal extensions and building were done long ago under a former very strong political warlord who will go nameless for the moment!
