Consumerist: Waythamoorty Advised To Adopt 1Malaysia Virtues In Nation Building!

This is 2012 and four eventful years have passed which saw the emergence of many new issues and the eclipse of others and the arrival of new political icons among them Bersih’s Ambiga Sreenevasan and other individuals who are bent on a Malaysian society where we are moving forward as 1Malaysian community – a unity despite religious, political, racial diversity!

Recent events have shown that any attempt to address Malaysian issues from a race based approach will fail as Malaysians are fed up with the attempt of any right wing fascist approach at governance or nation building.

New politics is about addressing issues comprehensively without prejudice, without racial and religious under or overtones, profiling, stereo-typing or politically marginalizing any groups from the mainstream of development and holistic progress!

That is how our founding fathers did so and we must return to that Political SOP, reference to the nation’s fundamental and supreme Constitution to address any departures by any quarter over another on issues and protocols already addressed and agreed upon!

IF there are still issues we can and will address them in a spirit of consultation, cordiality and conference as among friends and family!

And it is in this atmosphere that Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairperson P Waythamoorthy is returning to Malaysia after securing his passport via the Malaysian diplomatic mission in Singapore!

It is now solely in his hands how he decides to rejoin our democratic process whether as a statesman, a facilitator for good or he joins others who take a communal and fascist stance at issues which leads to confrontation in a multi racial and multi religious country like Malaysia!

I am overjoyed for many of us who had privately worked behind the scenes that the Malaysian government had fulfilled its obligation under the law as per his request for a passport to return home!

It is entirely in Waythamoorty’s hand how he rejoins the democratic space now!

I am certain that the Malaysian government has moved forward and is not out for revenge or having any plans to arrest him as being speculated by quarters who thrive in spins, creating turmoil, fabrication and confrontation for a private personal agenda.

But Waythamoorty is expected as a Malaysian citizen like all of us to play his rightful role in society, uphold the law, the federal constitution and not threaten the delicate political equilibrium and as far as he does so I think there is nothing to fear any reprisal from the security authorities!

Consumerist: BN Told Sabah Is For You To Lose! Act Therefore Now!

Dato Jacob George

Consumerist: Stop Pause, Think! BN Told Sabah Is For You To Lose! Act Therefore Now!

Whatever speculation is now purely an academic exercise as Wilfred Mojilip Bumburing and Lajim Ukin have started to distance themselves from the Barisan Nasional Government (BN)

I have just returned from Sabah and based on my findings it is highly debatable whether the withdrawal of both Wilfred and Lajim is an act of betrayal of the mandate given to them or just their way of saying that they have no confidence in the decision making processors and power holdings in the land below the wind?

I get the feeling that their move is more their disgust at the local leadership and murmurings which have long being going on that even a non partisan individual and out of the power circles individual like me was aware of the sentiments so why did not Putrajaya?

Perhaps, again it is all about political expediency or who they are talking and listening to?

Let me tell you that both Wilfred and Lajim are no mere candle holders as they are very senior BN leaders and the latter had a very colorful and sometimes ‘controversial’ political life?

This is why the ‘song and dance’ and the ‘war drums’ are being being beaten and I am afraid because it is my contention that these two are not political opportunists or ‘unwinnable candidates’ looking for a way to further their political ambitions by leaving BN, which is being perceived rightly or wrongly as a sinking ship but that they are looking at a Sabah of the future where one of them may be picked as the Sabah Chief Minister IF their political gamble works?

But I am saddened that they were not ‘damagingly’ very vocal long ago!

Those who know Lajim for one, is not a nobody as he is an UMNO supreme council member and likable!

Both Bumburing and Lajim had respectively won Tuaran and Beaufort seats in 2008 general election with a comfortable majority.

Both are seasoned duo and are expected to return still strong if fielded in the coming election despite an increasing support for the opposition.

Lajim, especially, is believed to be as strong as ever in Beaufort and especially in Klias state constituency which he had been serving and servicing well ever since he first won the seat in 1985.

More importantly how should BN respond?

So far the comments are muted at one end and at the other just silly childish statements nothing statesman like!

Most importantly can we accept mistakes were made and are still made but enough is enough, that one is ready to initiate an immediate action to address issues that have been of concern to Sabahans!

I care two hoots for what the gravy train peninsula based politicians, past and present, financially greased scribes and spin masters think!

The introduction of peninsula biased policies, the presence of illegal, political and economic immigrants and foreigners is not just the mother of all problems confined to in Sabah.

It is going to be the same mother of all problem in Peninsula Malaysia sooner than you think!

We are already seeing its impact in Sabah, and its impact in Peninsula Malaysia on our way of life, security, crime index, economy, housing, healthcare, education, employment, religion and religious tolerance, grants and resources!

There is time to address issues and plans of actions to stop the rot but it involves political will – a political will to accept we have failed to listen and act!

Perhaps we can start with four immediately:

1. Re-looking at the royalty issue comprehensively and political governance
2. Retiring ALL overstaying baggage filled political war lords from all political post, government appointments and nominations.
3. Addressing the Illegal’s issue without fear or favor and immediate deportation exercise to be initiated.
4. Addressing bread and butter issues

Consumerist: Govt Urged To Withdraw Tanda Putera Movie In The National Interest!’

‘It is sad that once again lessons have not being learnt and perhaps it is just a matter of time before issues like this find their way to the International Court of Justice at the Hague among other matters for arbitration using records from archives at the Public Records in London!

As far as this movie go, I am certain, in fact confident that Malaysia’s present generation of both young and old will reject it out rightly and perhaps this will be lesson to be learnt by Malaysia’s overzealous self serving politicians?’ – Dr Jacob George

Consumerist: Withdraw Screening Movie ‘Tanda Putera’ In The Nation’s Interest Govt Urged!
shuhaimi babaI do not know neither have I met Shuhaimi Baba!

She may be a marvelous person, perhaps even a very wealthy person, with all the right connections, and perhaps even all the good intentions but even a child watching her latest production Tanda Putera, movie – fully funded by the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) and the Multimedia Development Corporation (Mdec) cannot but conclude it is a product of sheer hypocrisy, manipulation of facts for a particular political agenda, a skewed re-telling of what happened during the 1969 race riots and pitched to open at the theaters weeks before Malaysia’s 13 General Election is about to be called!
NONEThe RM4.8 million movie does show what our ‘political black hands want’ – demonizing one’s political opponents and on the other perpetuate the popular ‘bodek’ and ‘kiss the politicians ass’ culture of hero worshiping even if they are all factually wrong!

It is an attempt to make today’s multi racial Malaysians who have broken the bondage to political slavery and subsidy look pretty stupid but it is an act that will backfire again at those behind its inception!

Those behind this movie have absolutely no respect for the innocent victims or their survivors and next of kin!

It is all about both political positioning, financial and political gains if any?

However worst the timing of this event at the most holy month of Ramadan a period for prayer, fasting, good deeds, reconciliation, re-examination of our lives according to the Almighty’s will is simply unforgivable despite to political predators in sheep’s clothes it is a convenient bogey man to flog as defeat stares at one’s eyes as GE13 appears to face one?

The film is an attempt to set to stir emotions, anger, animosity, and break down what gains have been made since 1969 out of nothing but lies for political expediency!

It is sad that once again lessons have not being learnt and perhaps it is just a matter of time before issues like this find their way to the International Court of Justice at the Hague among other matters for arbitration using records from archives at the Public Records in London!

As far as this movie go, I am certain, in fact confident that Malaysia’s present generation of both young and old will reject it out rightly and perhaps this will be lesson to be learnt by Malaysia’s overzealous self serving politicians?

We should not allow racist and political shenanigans or political expediency whoever and what ever medium they be to dictate backward policies and the federal government must have the courage to say ‘Nay!’ and win accolades moving the nation forward as 1Malaysia!

It is time to leave sad, hurting and despicable happenings of old buried and behind where they rightfully belong!

Consumerist: MIC At Crossroads With Political Opportunists, Sex Tapes Allegations and Lacking Winnable Candidates?

Some politicians think just by rubbing shoulders with UMNO politicians and placing huge posters and banners alongside Premier Najib’s Tun Razak’s face will assure them a seat or a win in the next General Election!

They are wrong! Dead wrong!

While in several parts of Peninsula Malaysia other political predators and opportunists, who were hoping for a seat ‘post Samy Velu era’ are in a shock and now threatening to go in the opposite direction as if we cared if they are nominated or not as election candidates!

In the state of Perak, where larger constitutional and other issues will be paramount in the forthcoming elections, an idiot has attempted to ‘steal the thunder’ by claiming that a prominent Perak MIC leader was caught on video having sex with a sex worker!

Now who really cares about these issues these days?

It just shows how misplaced and displaced the objectives of these opportunist are flogging a dead horse repeatedly!

Instead of going to the ground and helping in the dissemination of information, raising awareness, organizing campaigns, and seeing to the rights interests and fulfilling the needs of the Indian electorate, addressing issues close to their hearts and interests – poverty, marginalization, single mothers, alcoholism, crime, unemployment, micro credit, education, identity cards, passports, temple issues, scholarships, housing, jobs, further vocational training, it is again all about gutter politics of trying to bring disrepute and damage to individuals and political opponents by a media trial rather than by substantiating allegations!

Is these not a clandestine immoral effort of threats, blackmail and worse, the abusing of a nation’s democratic space for a personal agenda and political greed?

As such, I agree with dear friend, MIC vice-president M Saravanan who stated quite rightly that ‘with news of elections around the corner, it’s golden opportunity for anybody who wants to damage the credibility of a leader’ but he is also again correct to say even without a ‘single shred of evidence” been adduced.

For the record, the MIC suffered the most massive defeat in its history in the 2008 general election when it retained only three of the nine parliamentary seats and six of the 19 state seats it contested!

Therefore, it is pertinent that dear friend, the present party president accept the reality that GE13 whenever one has the political courage to call it, is going to be certainly not a ‘walk in the park’ and there is a possibility the MIC may be wiped off completely, exact for one seat!

Therefore making more certain that he does have quality, baggage free and winnable candidates on his side – not one full of ‘Yes Master’, apple polishers and ass lickers,  among them ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing?’

CONSUMERIST: MY BISHOP’S ADVICE – VOTE WISELY, VOTE FOR A BETTER MALAYSIA

Dato Jacob George

CHRISTIAN FEDERATION OF MALAYSIA
(PERSEKUTUAN KRISTIAN MALAYSIA)

18th July 2012

CFM LETTER TO THE MALAYSIAN CHURCHES & CHRISTIANS ON THE FORTHCOMING 13th GENERAL ELECTIONS

VOTE WISELY, VOTE FOR A BETTER MALAYSIA

In the first two chapters of Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament, we read of two separate accounts of God giving to Adam rule and authority over the earth and all that live in it. In the first book of the New Testament, the Gospel according to St. Matthew, chapter 5 and verses 13 to 15, Christians are told that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

These two passages and the collective message of our Holy Scripture point to the inescapable conclusion that Christians have a duty to protect and safeguard the earth, and all that live in it. Christians have not only been granted rights of leadership, but also the responsibility of stewardship.

In the context of the nation state, Christians, like other citizens, have been granted certain rights, including the right to participate in the democratic process of a country. This right to participate must be balanced with the responsibility of exercising that right, and doing so wisely.

The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) therefore invites and encourages all Christians to be conscious of their political rights – to vote, and to use the power of the vote to elect a government that will ensure justice with equity and the well-being of our nation. The CFM is not politically motivated nor is it endorsing any one political party.

It is of fundamental importance in a democracy, that citizens actually exercise their right to vote. Having the right to vote without utilising it is of little use.

Voting ensures that every Malaysian citizen participates in bringing about a more just and equitable Malaysia for succeeding generations to come.

Therefore, it is important that as Christians, we undertake our duty as citizens and exercise our right to vote and express our preference for a political coalition that will best achieve our vision of a better Malaysia.

In terms of our vision for a better Malaysia, CFM encourages Malaysian Christians to think about the following priorities:

A nation guided by the ethics of respect for human dignity. This means a nation where its citizens are engaged fairly as equals, and their rights respected in accordance with the provisions as guaranteed under the Federal Constitution. Such a nation treats its citizens with understanding, honesty and mutual respect.

A nation where extremism of all kinds is rejected and quickly curtailed. Racial and religious bigotry, manipulation and lies that have now come to define the social sphere, the print media and political posturing must end immediately.

A nation free of corruption, putting in place strengthened state and public institutions whose members conduct themselves with integrity, transparency and accountability.

A nation that works towards the fair and equitable distribution of wealth and ensuring well-being for all, regardless of citizenship status, ethnicity or creed. Every citizen and every community should be empowered and enabled to pursue economic activity and achieve advancement duly and fairly supported by the government where needed and necessary without favour or discrimination and without being overly or unfairly supported by the state.

A nation where care for the environment is privileged over self-seeking capitalism and where its political leaders weigh all decisions with ecological interest and sustainability as an essential aspect of development.

A nation where language and education are de-linked from political expedience.

A nation where elitism and inequality is not rampant and people are recognised and respected as human beings and not discriminated against due to social position, educational attainment, political beliefs, gender, race or religion.

A nation where religious freedom to profess, practice and propagate one’s religion is allowed to flourish without undue curtailment from the law, restrictions or even prohibition.

The CFM encourages Christians to pray that good leaders will emerge from the 13th general elections who will not only fulfil the above criteria, but who have the interest of our beloved nation and its people as their first and only priority.

Malaysians today are better educated, politically and socially more aware, and geographically more mobile than at any time in our history, and these have led to a citizenry that is more knowledgeable and experienced.

Churches have a responsibility to help guide their congregations to use their wisdom in the exercise of their right to vote in order to bring about a nation where all Malaysians, and those who choose to make their living in this country, can live in harmony and prosperity, peace and justice.

May the grace and the peace of God be with you.

Bishop Datuk Ng Moon Hing
Chairman and the Executive Committee
The Christian Federation of Malaysia
