Consumerist: AES To Be Contractor’s Cash Cow And BN’s GE13 Waterloo?

As far as I am concerned it is all about revenue and making Malaysian road users pay so that certain cronies linked to political parties and its henchmen can make money!

It has nothing to do with the issue of safety at all!

I am now told that the number of summons have gone past the 100,000 mark and if that is true from the limited number of cameras put up it already means 100,000 x RM300.00 per offense!

No mitigation whatsoever!

What is this when even in court mitigation is allowed before sentencing!

This will making using all Malaysian roads a hazard and a financial pain for the consumer.

I cannot but ask what lies in store for the Malaysian road users when all 818 cameras or more go on line?

We are told that over 90 countries use them? Are you sure? Certainly not implemented in a manner like this!

But even in the US there is still debate on it and in all the other countries there is no money making model but raising awareness being the focus!

Here we are told it is the answer to the rising fatalities on Malaysian roads?

We are told that over RM717 million has been spent by the contractors? Really?

At one meeting the talk was all about the contractors losing ‘revenue?’

Really it is revenue and not safety at the apex of this implementation?

And we are also told that there has been enough time given all round (10 years!) and a decision has been taken to implement the AES?

So far no one has answered my question whether the implementation of the AES violates the Road Transport Act?

I will not be kind to cite the specific area but allow our so called intelligentsia to seriously ponder where I am hinting on the possible deviation!

I cannot understand why the government cannot fork out the RM717 million allegedly spent on the said project and continue addressing this area as they have done so well under the joint operation of the JPJ and the Police?

Why give it to private operators?

I know at the official brief they cited thinking we are all stupid that it was because of 1. The Cost 2. The Expertise 3. Absorb cost of damage through vandalism – Really?

I cannot understand why we need private contractors to intervene in a specific ‘law and order’ situation?

I cannot also understand why the rush and whose interests is been looked at?

I am advised that so far there has already been over 100 thousand summons a result of just 14 cameras working and address that figure with RM300.00 per summon – go do that maths!

No wonder we have such rush to implement this rather abusive project!

Greed knows no bounds and sad it is done all in the name of safety!

I am now told the company that manages it has set up a warehouse with hundreds of work stations manned by individuals whose duties is to roll out the summons!

It means as my dear friends MPs Aziz, KJ and Bung and members of the BNBC put it at the official brief at Parliament, is the agenda to maximize summons – a ‘commercializing of summons’ – not realizing the official mammoth backlash expected on the BN when this is done!

We are all aware that the BN faces numerous obstacles from within and out and the AES and its RM300.00 is another trigger point for voters and consumers as RM300/- without mitigation is a huge sum and depending on the number of summons issued per vehicle in a day, week or month!

CASSA – http://www.cassa.org.my/ in its recent interview of 1200 consumers received a strict rejection of the AES in the manner it is formulated and implemented today!

If this is not a backlash, I wonder what the political damage would be IF a national referendum on the same is done!

I hope the Cabinet in its good sense, deliberations and foresight freezes the said project subject to re-discussions and a comprehensive review of existing problems that I have raised before in a select committee comprising of the consumer and civil society groups!

Already a opposition linked pressure group is readying 100 lawyers for those who wish to challenge the AES ‘driven and derived’ summons in court!

Its game on surely and one where the consumers will support certainly – as – you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know this!

Consumerist: Another Hospital Fiasco – Incompetence Runs Wild Despite Cosmetic Claims of Professionalism at MOH?

I am not the least shocked that another mishap has happened in Malaysia’s public hospital
s and certain that hundreds of thousands of other Malaysians also feel the same anger as I do at the continued incompetence, lack of professionalism and basically irresponsibility that is nakedly seen!

I wonder why in the years of the 50’s to 80’s nothing as shocking as these have been witnessed?

Perhaps then people were dedicated, sacrificed and serve with utter competence?

We did not have politicians and their cronies taking advantage of tenders, procurements, building and construction and security contracts, even some allegedly given price sensitive information on aging hospital equipments and other needs to prepare a dossier and put in a bit?

There are also ‘Surat Sokongans’ being given all around shamelessly even for patient treatment!

Shocking and shameless!

I know for a fact that when Dr Chua Soi Lek was Minister of Health he put a stop to this abuse and nonsense and much to his credit!

So today it is part of the front portion ceiling of the dermatology clinic at the Specialist Clinic Complex, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh that came crashing down at about 6am today.

Thank the ALMIGHTY that there were no casualties were reported in the incident which discovered by a security guard. Twenty ceiling boards fell to the floor.

Anyway it is not the only hospital to have suffered this fate!

Not long ago – HKL’s Ambulatory Care Centre caught fire before it could open.

At Serdang Hospital the ceiling collapsed!

Photo: Malaysian Health Ministry - Between Truth, Utter Bullshit And Fiction!

Perhaps like all news and political and commercial speeches that come out of Malaysian mouths – here too - one needs to shift to see how much of the ‘sales talk’ is absolute poppycock and utter bullshit and how much is the truth?

The State of a premier multi million ringgit hospital in Malaysia - This is the OT floor!

Note the leakages and broken roof - and - possible contamination!
At Selayang hospital the ceilings were leaking and the condition of that hospital a sad stage of affairs which was earlier boasted as Malaysia’s first paperless administration?

The much spoke about hospital at Sungai Buloh’s OT has yet to open and I wonder why?

At Klang hospital we seem to have more CCTV’s than security guards and that hospital also needs a lift but at the manner contracts are given out with crony contractors one just wonders what would happen there?

In Sabah we cannot but wonder what is happening to the much once praised Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s fate?

And yes while we are on a roll here, what is the state of the cost over-run Shah Alam Hospital?

Consumerist: Making Debtors Of Our Students?

I am shocked that there are far too many Medical and other Colleges/Universities been set up nationwide offering all forms of courses and making all forms of claims!

How much of it is truth and others pure unadulterated fiction to sell dreams that will never be attained while reaping huge obese millions as fees for the owners and spear headers of these ventures?

In the field of medicine alone, we have over stretched the number of schools, colleges, universities compared to even the UK!

We are not just talking about entry requirements but the training, exposure and eventually whether these individuals are equipped to a job of life saving, dedication, sacrifice – which is essentially revolving around education, skills and training?

In aviation alone, many took huge loans hoping to be pilots but now jobless and now urged to go into helicopter training which will be another half a million?

How sure are the advisers of these stupid schemes that there is a guarantee of a job when another huge amount is paid as fees by loans taken or by usage of the families saving?

Interesting these politically connected businessmen behind these schemes masquerading as education entrepreneurs when investigated seem to have a questionable track record and past and only their sine biotic relationships with the country’s powerful political elite assures them of non conviction or brickbats?

Perhaps, they avoid the radars by employing the nation’s well respected and prestigious once civil servants or professionals – their ‘get out of jail card?’

Already we are advised those thousands who took huge loans to do nursing and other support services are now either unemployed or are cashiers at hypermarkets or others urged to take up new untested specialties which is a no brainer either despite having unpaid debts from earlier loans?

These individuals now forced into been loan defaulters at such a young age while the owners of these schemes are laughing all the way to the bank and driving and living a bourgeois’ lifestyle and been awarded distinguished honorific’s but for what?

CONSUMERIST: SYNDICATED AUCTIONS, SALES OF NPLS – CROOKS, MONEY LAUNDERERS AND SHENANIGANS IN OUR BANKING SYSTEM?

Dato Jacob George

CONSUMERIST: SYNDICATED AUCTIONS, SALES OF NPLS – CROOKS, MONEY LAUNDERERS AND SHENANIGANS IN OUR BANKING SYSTEM?

I am thankful to The Star (26th Oct., 2012) newspaper for highlighting yet another shocking news that raises red flags all over confirming my war of words and several press conferences where it was highlighted that something is strangely wrong in the way our banks operate!

Already in several developed countries which includes the US, the UK and Europe action has already been taken against banks for the same issues being raised by the Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam, Selangor (CASSA).

We have untold horror stories with Non Performing Loans (NPLs) being sold to third parties at huge discounts when in the first place if the same is offered to the loan taker all things could have been resolved!

We have chaos with 5 major buyers of NPLs and investigations on them raises many strange and shocking affairs which in any other jurisdiction would have resulted in a Royal Commission of Inquiry!

In one bank group itself there are allegations that 43,000 troubled loans were sold off to these predators!
Then we have issues which violates the National Land Code!

We have issues with the issue of Vesting Orders and its legalities!

We have issue with syndicated Auctions where today there are allegations that criminal groups, loan sharks, smugglers and money launderers with help from certain irresponsible lawyers and with insider information on ‘troubled housing accounts’ are buying in with price sensitive information from insiders who are offered bribes?

So I am not the least shocked that a clerk found her home being auctioned off by a different bank despite having fully settled a loan of RM25,000 with her borrowing bank two years ago.

The house owner had claimed that she had neither entered into any sales agreement to sell her low-cost double-storey terrace house in Taman Tambun Emas here, nor applied for another loan from the bank, which was carrying out the auction.

And adding to that she had verification and confirmation from her borrowing bank, which confirmed that she had settled the full loan amount, in February 2010.

But here was a shocker!

In December that year, a notice of public auction was served on her property by the other bank!

She also added that to date, her borrowing bank has not released the title to the property to her and why is this so if the loans has been indeed settled?

The bank’s answer according to her is that they are still waiting for a reply from the law firm, which handles the security documents.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist to note that something is amiss here and we may be witnessing yet another case of high powered and executed fraud!

So far those expected to play the role of watch dogs are either sleeping or more interested to suck up to industry players and politicians rather than the common man and women on the verge of losing all thanks to their incompetence!

Consumerist: AES And Maximization Of Summons – So Far 60,000 Summons by 14 Cameras in 7 days x RM300.00 Per summons – What Lies In Store For Malaysian Road Users When All 800 Go Operational In The Future?

We are told that over 90 countries use them?

I am advised that so far there has already been over 60 thousand summons a result of just 14 cameras working over 7 days and address that figure with RM300.00 per summon – go do that maths!

No wonder we have such rush to implement this rather abusive project!

Greed knows no bounds and sad it is done all in the name of safety!

So far all I see is an AES system put in place where the business model is not safety but obese profits and the maximization of summons where so far we have over 60,000 Summons by 14 Cameras in 7 days x RM300.00 Per summon – What Lies In Store For Malaysian Road Users When All 800 Go Operational In The Future?

I ask the Cabinet to freeze the project subject to re-discussions and a comprehensive review of existing problems that I have raised below!

Flashback:

Yesterday I stated the following:

The nations ‘intelligent people’ supposedly have shared their latest ‘mantra’ and ‘justification’ that the just implemented amidst protest from both sides of the political divide the Automatic Enforcement System (AES), is geared at catching speedsters and to reduce road accidents.

Basically these rather ‘intelligent people’, supposedly the cream of Malaysian are really stating that it is basically speed as the root causes of accidents!

But strangely when ‘people of substandard intelligence’ like you and I look at the statistics of accidents and study its background – we see that there were in 2005 a reported 31,222 casualties from motorcycle accidents, which basically constitutes to 66 percent of all traffic accidents in Malaysia!

Perhaps, those rather very ‘intelligent people’ also failed to have access to another reality – that a 2010 report by the police and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) stated that there were 120,156 accidents involving motorcycles from the 9.4 million registered motorcycles.

Of this, there were 12,112 casualties with 3,614 rider fatalities and 422 pillion rider fatalities.

It does not end there as according to Miros, 3,523 accidents involved pedestrians in 2005, 12 percent of whom were children aged one to 18 years.

Traffic enforcement is just not using the ‘big stick’ or treating it as a business preposition as it is tabled now with two private companies and their political handlers to gain massive profits and at whose name?

Since some ‘very intelligent personalities’ has cited developed nations like France, Germany, Australia, Singapore and the United States may I of substandard intelligence ask a rather pertinent question?

How many of these nations with a geographical area larger than Malaysia (except for Singapore!) have installed 800 AES cameras in place?

As for the Australian manufactured cameras – how many AES cameras have been placed in Australia?

I am advised by a family member in the city of Perth only 4!

I do not despite not being so intelligent as the proponents of these multi million ringgit cash cows disagree that truly the AES is one of the elements of traffic management and accident prevention module.

But it is not the all – as we have others to look at and among them badly designed roads which are either too narrow, badly maintained, poor traffic management, congested, poorly synchronized traffic lights which result in even worst congestion, numerous bottlenecks especially on highways and exiting toll plazas.

What about providing motorcycle lanes, pedestrian facilities, upgrading intersection designs, installing road and intersection lighting and proper signage – having speed limits implemented after a comprehensive study!

But no!

We Malaysians of ‘smaller IQs and intelligence’ must put up with the official version and plenty of bullshit!

One should not ask because of our ‘lack of intelligence’ how these contracts were financially positioned?

We the ‘lesser intelligent’ should not ask whether contractors sought quotes from foreign vendors, then just tripled the costs and submitted the bids which they knew they were going to get because it is all politically motivated and positioned?

But never mind they think we are after ‘all idiots!’

They think we should accept without query their a one sided argument hook line and sinker.

They do not think it is pertinent to first fix our traffic management system and synchronize traffic lights!

They feel it is not necessary to maintain and fix roads to ensure proper conditions for traffic and reduce fatalities due to potholes and badly maintained roads.

The need like Singapore to remove ‘old junks’ off the road as they pose a significant traffic risk.

Or the need to relook at the abuse of Police Outriders!

Yes the police escorts disrupting traffic flow even for a bunch of idiots going to a football game as we had this last week at Shah Alam!

And come to think of it – if our ministers & politicians want to be appreciated and respected, they should learn to identify with the peoples woes and experience the said jams with us!

As for now my observation is many of the said AES cameras are installed in locations where you exit the highway where the speed is lower.

These are not accident prone areas but designed to catch as many motorists as possible.

And Yes – the main intention of the AES is to profit cronies not to reduce accidents.

I will not go into the allegations of the inflated costs of the cameras for now!

But public interest demands accountability!

And truly a civilized, cultured and matured society is exactly one that kicks up a fuss over unfair, unjust and unworthy causes, rules and blind spots.

And they have a right to ask the government to come clean IF they can do so for once!
