Consumerist: You Are Always Missed! Get Well Soon Papa Mahathir!

It was years ago that I last kissed his hands in a gesture of respect, humility and love for this statesman, leader and father figure!

That was when we won the Prime Minister’s Award for Quality and at that material time I was senior administrator at a private hospital!

A Sungei Petani, Kedah boy myself, I cannot be but proud of his historic achievements which I repeatedly commented positively in various articles that have appeared in the mainstream media over the online media and blogs during his premiership!

His contribution to Langkawi is insurmountable, my wife served there as medical officer at Langkawi hospital in the 90’s and we lived there and our first born was conceived there!

As such we had ‘inside view’ of many of his contributions there!

My respect for his wife ‘Mummy’ Siti Hasmah paramount and always seen as a very graceful person with huge love and sensitiveness for people genuinely!

My family and I now pray for your continued well being and good health sir and our love and respect for you both will always continue unfettered!

God Bless!

Consumerist: Court Decision On Aminulrasyid Tragic! Will The Issue Now Go Global To Address Alleged Injustice?

Dato Jacob George

‘Am I hearing that an international tribunal would now be initiated along the lines of the ‘War Crimes’, perhaps in London in 2014 to look at cases like this from across the globe specifically by learned retired judges and EU politicians, members of the civil society, practitioners of the law and others?’

Consumerist: Court Decision On Aminulrasyid Tragic! Will The Issue Now Go Global To Address Alleged Injustice?

I cannot but seek the answers my learned friends from – NGO Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) raised:

Does the present judgment then give the police a ‘carte blanche licence’ to kill anyone fleeing from the police even if they are not suspected of any serious criminal offence nor pose a threat to members of the security forces or public?

Does the judgment then give the perception that the Malaysian courts now support trigger-happy police whose action can be continued to be stated as ‘mistake or accidental death?’

NONEIs the Malaysian courts not interested to address the pertinent issue of ‘international and established standards for the use of lethal force’ specially when minors and unarmed are involved?

More importantly, has the Malaysian courts failed to look into whether Jenain’s actions were justified under the law and in accordance to the police’s Inspector-General’s Standing Order on the use of firearms?

What troubles me and all parents in 1Malaysia – Sabah and Sarawak included – that the Malaysian courts had held that the 30 shots fired from a sub-machine gun were meant to stop the vehicle with no intention to kill Aminulrasyid?

That is scandalous to put lightly!

Does that mean we now have a precedent set in 1Malaysia that one can spray any fleeing vehicle with bullets and when death takes place hold no one accountable?

Am I hearing that an international tribunal would now be initiated along the lines of the ‘War Crimes’, perhaps in London in 2014 to look at cases like this from across the globe, specifically by learned retired judges and EU politicians, members of the civil society, practitioners of the law and others?

And that finding be made globally public and a standard of dignity, decorum, the rule of law and for law and institutional behavior reforms worldwide?

Consumerist: If You Are Clean Declare Your Assets Publicly Public Office Holders Urged!

It is interesting how the decision by the Selangor government to pat themselves at the back by giving themselves obese and vulgar pay rises raises an important point or two!

It is said that IF a state is well-managed and free of corruption the increase in pay for the elected representatives is perfectly acceptable.

It is also said – that what is the use if in the public eye you earn a low salary but inexplicable the wealth one has accumulated seems to outweigh one’s salary?

Which seems to be the case in 1Malaysia!

So let us all be truly religious, truly the ALMIGHTY’s child and faithful followers of whatever religious belief you profess – let all elected officials to public office declare their assets public to a independent body comprising of NGO leaders, politicians from all divides, members of the civil society and so forth!

Apa macam – can Mr Politician?

Consumerist: Another Takes His Own Life Unable To Bear Loan Sharks Harassment!

This is not new in Malaysia and far too much levy and space is now been given to this notorious class of people to operate here!

Even when death takes place money changes hands to ‘close the case’ – how despicable!

Why do loan sharks do this?

Even those coming on as knights in shinning Armour with honorifics are alleged to be involved and getting kickbacks from these scrums of society?

It was heart breaking to learn that the man who ran the nearby car wash (near my home) where I send our family cars committed suicide unable to take the threats and abuse of the Ah Long! (money lender)

His sons shared the tragedy with me today, how he hung himself and left a note stating that he was unable to tolerate the abuse any longer and naming the culprit!

And when the family were all away for festivities – he took his life!

I spent the last 2 hours praying with the family and sharing in their grief!

I am lost for words except to hold their hands and pray silently!

I am disgusted at this but what can we do when there is far too great a corruption all around us and at each and every level?
