Consumerist: MAS Policymakers & Misplaced Priorities?

To deny that MAS in its present form and operations is a pale shadow of what was is not unfair comment!

To claim that morons, idiots, and fools sitting in well paid positions making decisions have leant nothing from the recent tragedies of MH370 and MH17 and the layoff of dedicated, passionate, hardworking and sacrificing front liners of Pilots, flight crew who made this brand is again not unfair comment!

The “layoff” of trained pilots and the selling off of our fleet of 777s was also a foolish act!

What is embarrassing and unfortunate is the hypocrisy, the pretense, the play acting that all is well when it is not – and the barbaric desire to position and indulge in UN-necessities like the proposed uniform make over for the airlines!

Seriously?

The makeover and huge amount spent for this rather idiotic and silly endeavors is going to re-position MAS to its glory days?

Gosh, we are surrounded by morons and idiots and it never ends!

I am advised that I am not alone in my comments as the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (NUFAM) has criticized Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) for announcing that it will have a uniform makeover for its staff, as well!

In a statement issued today, NUFAM is reported to have stated that “the change in uniform would be a huge waste of money that the company could use in the future.”

And I sincerely ask with my British trained legal mind – seriously why the rather blind and callous haste in changing MAB’s image?

Yes, why waste millions on new uniforms when the current uniforms have become a badge and image that is known worldwide!

Whose stupid idea is this?

And what is in the brand?

Should we not be addressing the many internal weaknesses that has crashed what was once a brand millions of consumers looked up to?

A team who won countless awards and against great other competing brands in air travel?

Should not the vision be to address the rot in the system, to replace deadwood self-serving policymakers in MAB?

Should MAB not be addressing the financial compensation to the 6,000 staff fired last year in a downsizing exercise, who have yet to be compensated?

Seriously MAB – this uniform makeover is the silver bullet to all woes within this brand?

Embarrassingly, MAS is today more like a low cost carrier rather than what she was once!

Even an unknown of yester-years – Turkish Airlines is making headway and challenging leading brands and headwind challenges from the likes of QATAR AIRWAYS, SINGAPORE AIRLINES, CATHAY PACIFIC AIRWAYS, TURKISH AIRLINES. EMIRATES and ETIHAD AIRWAYS!

They are all maintaining their positions, making strategic inroads, extending routes and upgrading and MAB cutting down, giving up destinations to our competitors and going back in time – in using 747s not that is not a great ride, and wasting monies that could be used elsewhere and for a more critical function?

But this is what we get when the nation’s resources and assets are allowed to be put in the hands of idiots and morons?

Prime Minister sir, please do intervene and as I cried out months ago to you sir, – please replace the present community of idiots running this airlines!

I offer myself to assist in its rebuilding, re-branding and re-positioning as a national service too in their place!

CASSA – MOH URGED TO CHECK CLAIMS ON QUAKER OATS!

Do Malaysians know that Quaker Oats is being sued for $5 million dollars by a man claiming the company’s production process includes a weed killer.

Yes that is the news exposure!

A Brooklynite named Lewis Daly has filed a lawsuit, alleging the company uses a chemical called glyphosate when processing the oats for its oatmeal.

This herbicide is reportedly sprayed on the oats as a drying agent shortly before harvest.
Glyphosate is used as a weed killer and is considered to be “probably carcinogenic to humans,” based on statements from the World Health Organization in 2015.

It has been linked to numerous maladies, including breast, thyroid, kidney, pancreas and bladder cancers.

In the suit filed, Daly takes issue with Quaker Oats’s claims of being 100% natural and “one of nature’s most perfect energy sources.”

In the suit, he calls their advertising “false, deceptive and misleading.”

But according to The New York Times, Quaker has issued its defense, stating, “Any levels of glyphosate that may remain are trace amounts and significantly below any limits which have been set by the E.P.A as safe for human consumption.”

I strongly feel in the light of the findings of WHO, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health should immediately instruct that the brand be taken off all shelves in sales outlets and consumers advised accordingly!

I also take offense at their claims and statements that Quaker Oats’ being 100% natural and “one of nature’s most perfect energy sources!

This is a misrepresentation!

Consumerist: It’s Time To Expose Misbehaving & Notorious Malaysian Companies Abroad!

There have been many complaints about the unethical practices of Malaysian companies overseas to the extent that they have acquired a kind of notoriety in the international business arena.

These “bad boys” of the business community are seen as criminals, an image which is not good for the country, especially when it is striving to compete on the global stage.

As such, Malaysia’s lead Consumerist and one who has a well-known reputation on the national and international stage takes lead in a plan of action to expose and stop such unethical practices perpetrated by Malaysian businesses.

Dr Jacob George, a British trained lawyer and leading consumerist and ASEAN Expert having a great personal relationship with governments in the region, with a track record of over 39 years, feel the time is right with the addressing and exposing hundreds of errant companies indulging in underhand methods like corruption, human trafficking, environmental degradation, money laundering, abandoned projects and cheating to make their pile.

George feels, the time is just right with the symbiotic relationship between international stakeholders committed to the agenda and spirit of disclosure, transparency, good governance, accountability, ethics and zero tolerance to all forms and kinds of corruption and abuse of power to work closely to address such issues.

The findings eventually compiled into a dossier about the “sins” of the companies and submitting it to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his perusal and possible government action.

To be successful, first we need to set up a database with information on how Malaysian businesses are manipulating deals in the international market place!

For this purpose, it is important to form a global team dubbed “Dr Jacob George and Associates” to spearhead the initiative and narrative.

Funding is important and as such – we need to source out funding support from international non-governmental organizations in London (UK), Brussels (Belgium), The Hague (Netherlands), Frankfurt (Germany) and Perth (Australia).

With such a professional engagement of talent working abroad and locally in alignment monitoring Malaysian companies by collecting data on the background of those involved in alleged corruption.

Once the evidence is unearthed it will be published to spearhead public outcry at such distasteful practices!

And if a Malaysian company has been alleged to be involved in any form of illegal activities abroad, we would go there and jointly investigate with our associates. Then once we get the evidence, we will advise our government to initiate action accordingly.

It is hoped that within the next 18 months we can come up with a dossier on such companies for the authorities attention!

Eventually, a blueprint would be drawn up for Malaysian businesses to behave in a manner expected of them in the international business arena.

Image result for money laundering

Some of the immediate areas will include looking at Malaysians involved in illegal organ transplant donations, human trafficking, money laundering, using young women as drug mules and timber corruption, among other things.

When asked where this concept came, George said the idea of setting up the “global watch team” was mooted after he had received a lot of complaints about the “criminal activities” of Malaysians doing business abroad.

George cited the case of Malaysian, who was charged with bribing a US Navy commander and special agent with luxury travel and women in exchange for classified information to benefit his business dealings with the US Navy, which involved millions in government contracts.

In addition to forming a global team, the task force will also be a “consultative body” to advise potential foreign investors about the business climate in Malaysia.

The secretariat and consultative wing which will be in London, is like a task force to help advise these investors on threats companies face in emerging markets. No one wants to come here and find they were cheated or hoodwinked.”

He gave an assurance that any information or data received concerning any wrongdoings would be strictly confidential.

George reiterated that they will be just and fair when investigation is conducted; we do not have any intention of tarnishing another person’s name!

He also welcomed like-minded people especially from organizations working on these issues to provide their input.

It is important to work together as today the global stage has become a village and cross border crimes is fast emerging as a new and emerging threat that has to be addressed!

It is therefore time to pool our resources and expertise to address these grouses and woes in the market place and business sectors!

Consumerist: 8 Points To Consider As You Leave Your Job With Your Dignity & Decorum Intact!

Consumerist: 8 Points To Consider As You Leave Your Job With Your Dignity & Decorum Intact!

January 2016 I was invited by a MNC board room group to present some thoughts on a subject they were wrestling with.

They had a revolving turn-over and their people in Human Resources management were lost in the woods and were not engaging this matter the way the board wanted which impacted their image and created perceptions that the Board, the senior management and the other tiers were not aligned.

Of course they had all that cosmetics flow charts, programs, reporting lines schedules but they did not have one important critical element which goes along with many fancy titles.
But they did not have an heart!

They wanted me to share what I would look at or advice on talent about to leave or simply frustrated.

They wanted to know what was in the mind of those about to quit and what I will advise this core group.

Listen – All of us go through a time when we may decide that enough is enough and the need to move on!

It may be that you feel betrayed, by-passed or that you are working for idiots and morons!

Never mind what!

If you have decided to leave and feel that it is for the best – my advice is that you make sure you don’t leave your dignity behind. How you leave your job who you are and how you feel about yourself.

I pray these 8 suggestions will help you leave on a good note. They won’t guarantee it, because you can’t control other people’s reactions. But even if there is negativity, if you leave with what cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien calls Honorable Closure, you will be able to feel good about yourself.

1. Do your homework. Before you make the decision to quit, be clear about what your motivation is. Is it because: Career opportunities are limited? There something more attractive elsewhere? This is not the work you want to be doing after all? There is a lack of support from the boss or co-workers, or too much conflict? Some of these reason are because you are moving forward to what you desire. Whatever your assumptions are, have you tested them and are sure they are correct?

2. Never make the decision to leave while you are caught in emotions. If you are really angry, take the time for your rational brain to kick back in. You might still decide to leave, but you can make a rational decision on the best way to proceed.

3. Don’t feel guilty. Your attitude makes a huge difference in how you come across when you tell your boss you’re leaving. You don’t need to feel guilty or defensive about leaving a job. According to statistics, the median number of years in a job is around four years. Some people realize immediately that they have landed in the wrong place. If that’s the case, the honorable thing to do is to move on before it gets worse.

4. If you are asked why you are leaving, be clear, be straight, be descriptive. You are more credible when you share information and facts. Don’t dump a lot of emotional baggage, accusations, or generalities that can’t be verified.

5. Tell your boss before you tell your co-workers so he or she doesn’t hear it first through the rumor mill. Spreading rumors is just not an epidemic at middle and lower management! It exists even at the higher levels believe me!

6. Consider discussing your concerns with your boss before you make the final decision to leave. It might be there are options you are not aware of that would affect your decision.

7. Give enough warning so they are not hanging in the lurch.

8. Give it your all to the end. There can be a temptation to slack off when you know you’re leaving. Seeing it through to the finish will help you feel good about your contribution and yourself as you walk out the door the last time.

Unless of course, there is hurt and if this is the case, it is your right to date the exit plan and date, clean up your office and walk out with your dignity intact irrespective what others think or fear or plan as “handover” – as they are irrelevant – period!

Conclusion:

IF you have been a great talent and your track record is there – it is just a matter of time – that another MNC or company grabs you as your track record, professionalism and achievements speaks for themselves!
