CONSUMERIST – CHRISTIANS WAITING FOR JOSEPH’S APOLOGY!

‘It may be worst when political shenanigans and others of loose, crude and vulgar morality have high jacked the political process in the country and entrenched the nation into an abyss of gutter politics!

So much that we do not know fact from fiction, truth from fabrication, and gutter political culture practiced by political pariahs from one that is spearheaded by statesmen!

But as far as I know Joseph, he is a good man and a Christian who perhaps in a moment of ‘temporary loss’ said something uncalled which he perhaps, regrets, for thus hurting his brethren!

An apology is required speedily to manage and mitigate the hurt!

This is not asking too much!’ _ Dr Jacob George

CONSUMERIST – CHRISTIANS WAITING FOR JOSEPH’S APOLOGY!

bishop paul tan chee ingI was very reassured to hear Catholic Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing advising Christian politicians to distinguish between their career interests and the requirements of their faith in ways that would vivify both!

It was great advice and one I pray they will reflect on and adhere to!

The outspoken Bishop of the Melaka-Johor diocese whom I hope to meet this week was like me upset at news of that ‘strange comment’ by my Christian brother, Joseph Salang Gandum, who is the present deputy information, communication and culture minister, who was reported to have said that Christians were making fools of themselves by gathering at prayer meetings over the issue of the Malay Bible, Al-Kitab in Sarawak recently!

I was really shocked myself when first told by friends both here and in Sarawak of that crude and silly remark!

It was not like Joseph as I know that he is really a nice guy, friendly, helpful and full of life!

So what happened?

Why did Joseph a Christian find it rather upsetting and distressing to witness our Christian brethren prayerfully demonstrating their concerns over the impoundment of the Al-Kitab as somehow foolish?

Was the ‘political pressure’ of it all getting too much?

It is as my former Professor Dr James Veitch once advised that it was really difficult to reconcile Christian morality, our faith and belief with today’s elements and requirements of politics but we must strive to be above the rest as our master and savior demands!

It may be worst when political shenanigans and others of loose, crude and vulgar morality have high jacked the political process in the country and entrenched the nation into an abyss of gutter politics!

So much that we do not know fact from fiction, truth from fabrication, and gutter political culture practiced by political pariahs from one that is spearheaded by statesmen!

My belief is simple that the Christian cannot stay aloof from the public political arena but he/she must know they stand and its limits!

Ultimately his/her master is – ‘Our Lord!’

Let him/her not forget this paramount truth!

So I still say my brother Joseph owes an apology to our Christian brethren for that rather crude and silly statement!

Our campaign against RACISM of all forms!
