CONSUMERIST – CNN INTERNATIONAL LAUDED IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING EFFORT!

‘It is a fact that despite statutes and laws engraved in stone we have numerous cases where governments say one thing and practice another!

Even when they have clear and comprehensive Anti-trafficking legislation!

And thanks to that despicable act and the ineffectiveness of the laws, thanks to corrupt policymakers, civil servants, law and enforcement and politicians – the selling of human, commercial exploitation of people for profit is rampant in each and every country!’ – Dr Jacob George

CONSUMERIST – CNN INTERNATIONAL LAUDED IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING EFFORT!

No one denies that the war against ‘new strains of slavery’ is important!

And certainly true since this new strain of slavery is transnational and across borders and its players well financed, politically protected, well organized and having conduits the world over!

It is a fact that despite statutes and laws engraved in stone we have numerous cases where governments say one thing and practice another!

Even when they have clear and comprehensive Anti-trafficking legislation!

And thanks to that despicable act and the ineffectiveness of the laws, thanks to corrupt policymakers, civil servants, law and enforcement and politicians – the selling of human, commercial exploitation of people for profit is rampant in each and every country!

We are advised that an estimate of 27 million people, mostly women and children, are enslaved and forced to work long hours, live in subhuman conditions, and be subjected to brutalities and sexual accosting by their “owners”.

And that human trafficking is quickly moving into first place as the most lucrative underworld “business”, outpacing drug and weapons crimes, grossing over $32 billion annually around the globe.

This is no rocket science as we all are exposed to it some time or another and realizes that the root cause of human trafficking is always related to greed and power!

Just like politics!

The victims, consideration, collateral damage call them whatever but the truth is they have many things in common.

Among them that they are poverty-stricken, disenfranchised through previous abuses, and those willing to believe lies and manipulative stories about a “better life” easily fall victim to enslavement.

In the majority of cases it is the vulnerable that are preyed upon, in forced labor, in forced criminal activity, and in forced prostitution.

It is those who do not believe they can have a better lot in life that remain enslaved out of fear of what the captors will do to them if they try to leave.

It is those who think their sacrifice will help their loved ones to be safe who are willing to give up their rights, their freedom, and their very personhood and remain under the brutal control of the pimp or debt-holder!

And as proactive and dedicated CNN International says – The fight to bring some of these people to freedom is arduous and costly.

At the same time we live in a new changing paradigm where there is a growing groundswell of support from civil society groups, grassroots organizations, and ‘born again’ political parties, focused, sincere, religious and dedicated governments!

And true we are all saying – Enough! No More!

This is why I cannot but laud the great and dedicated effort of CNN International in leading the charge against human injustice in their Freedom Project!

The Freedom Project is an in-depth look at the horrors of modern day human trafficking, with a strong call to action, declaring “it is time to put an end to modern day slavery”.

CNN International goes on record to say:

‘We go beyond borders to tackle slavery, head on; to untangle the criminal web that trades in human life; to give victims a voice; to bring captors to justice; to keep government officials to their word.  The victims can’t walk away, and neither will we.   It is time to put modern day slavery out of business, and CNN has joined the fight to bring hope and freedom’

Share below the ways that you are helping raise awareness and join the fight against human trafficking, labor trafficking, and adult and child sex trafficking.

We pray for the success of the CNN International efforts in this area!
