CASSA is sad to hear from our contact abroad that there has been a fresh outbreak of the dreaded H1N1 virus in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and some other states, claiming at least 21 lives in the last three months!
According to our sources in New Delhi, there are at least 309 cases reported in five states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.
And shockingly of the 21 deaths in 2012 so far, Maharashtra has reported nine deaths, followed by seven in Rajasthan and five in Andhra Pradesh. No death has taken place in Karnataka and Gujarat, which have also reported cases of H1N1 virus this year.
This is an alert and I trust our boys and girls at MOH are already on alert more of travel arrivals from these states in India!
My friends at the Health Ministry have confirmed that they are presently monitoring the situation and that there was no reason for panic!
Point taken – but it would be good to see out teams conducting immediate surveillance on arrivals at all our entry points!
