Consumerist: Mickey Mouse Boycotts & Political Swashbuckling For Senatorships?

Many wanted to be nominated for seats at the last GE13 but it did not materialize.

Bad for these ‘fellas’ who played up through the media creating an impression they were the one to lead?

Now the rumor is there is an attempt to galvanize lobbying for senate seats and if this is all but not all confusing in the wake of petitions challenging the authenticity of certain section of the election process and results, we have groups making statements that test the reasonable man’s intelligence, dignity and decorum!

And among them – boycotts!

So let us talk about boycotts!

IF you have been a consumer advocate as long as I have been – 37 years now and counting you will know the following.

Boycotts has never worked in Malaysia and the only time it did was when we ran the boycott then on Indah Water Consortium in the early 90s!

But in today’s political renaissance and awakening with over 52% of the population dissenting and angry, any boycott politically motivated will fail, threaten the Malaysian economy more when the latter (52%) decides to target companies providing goods and services ‘branded’ as of the establishment what happens – will they be threatened with their citizenship been revoked by groups and political shenanigans playing the mantra today?

So if you want to boycott go ahead! But do not fret and scream when the tables are turned on you and cry – ‘unfair!’, ‘conspiracy!’, and other superlatives?

Tomorrow another perhaps the 52% who are upset and angry will call for a boycott of companies closely knit to the ruling government!

Then what?

Back track, blame the press for misquoting, blame a Jewish conspiracy to destabilize the nation, or why not claim Uncle George Soros had a hand in this all?

And why do we get into this mess so often?

And what is the plan and the back-up if it fails as it has now?

Oh! Never mind!

We are a democracy!

My two cents worth!

For those who want to still run a boycott or market campaign – Keep your statements simple, clear and precise!

Secondly focus on the campaign not target your alleged opponents or phantoms in the dark.

And finally when you realize it is not working just shut the **** up and move on pretending the boycott never existed and never called for – that was a figment of someone’s imagination.

You have been advised!
