MALAYSIAN ASEAN APEC LEAD CONSUMERIST PROF DR JACOB GEORGE ON WHY HRH TENGKU MAHKOTA OF PAHANG WILL MAKE A SUPER 16th KING.
HRH has many talents that have been tried and tested!
He is also a national and international figure of great respect and adulation globally!
He has always carried himself with such dignity and decorum.
But from where I come from, which is not politics, but from over 40 years in the arena of social work, public policy initiatives, consumerism and working for the betterment of the Malaysian public, I cannot but hail HRH Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah as a ready and much needed figure to lead Malaysia as our next king!
And why do I say this?
My late step father in Kuantan, was extremely close to the Pahang Royal household and so is my medical doctor, step brother, which assisted my insights!
More importantly during that incident several years ago, I had an opportunity to see and observe HRH in action, as HRH advised all the stakeholders as the state faced a vicious flood situation in 2016!
He was administratively strict, articulate and reminded all parties and stakeholders involved in providing flood relief assistance to potential victims to set aside political differences and focus on providing equal treatment to all.
He advised that no one should be sidelined and the need for strategic coordination, administrative vision and good governance mechanism put in place for the good of everyone.
HRH was also aware of the realities at ground zero in national and state calamities!
He was addressing that of unknown challenges that may crop up in national and state calamities as we cannot have envisaged all issues in a fast changing crisis situation.
He advised all the parties telling them that there could be some weaknesses or delays, but not to turn them into controversies.
That team work was critical!
He was super strict as well as he stated that they should not resort to practicing village politics (“politik kampung”).
HRH advised that there should be no incidents of victims not receiving food, or allowed to register for shelter.
That the rehabilitation and response mitigation process be made simple and depart from bureaucratic fiascos.
I was very moved hearing him state that this was the time to mobilize a total response where all state government agencies, corporate bodies and individuals should come forward to provide assistance in whatever form, to lessen the burden of flood victims!
The operative word HRH emphasized was – ‘flood victims!”
Where HRH stated clearly those victims regardless of their race, religion and background must be assisted!
We pray that through the grace of the Almighty – HRH Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah will be elected Malaysia’s 16th king!
