I was there monitoring and I am shocked at the behavior of these handful who really did not fit into the entire peaceful protest of over 300,000 well behaved Malaysians of all ages, races, religious persuasions who just wanted one thing – FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS!
But, who were unfortunately that handful who misbehaved after allegedly a Police vehicle drove through the crowds?
Who were they really? Agent provocateurs? Who put them up, paid them?
Can someone out there please identify these few idiots and morons?
I am also equally upset with an opposition party’s deputy president who went beyond and incited a segment of the crowd to ‘attack Dataran Merdeka’ when the organizers had already signaled and called the people to disperse!
He was another idiot, an absolute fool who needs to be told that he cannot behave and act this way!
In the meantime, who are these idiots, thugs, morons and who put them to it?
All Malaysians ask this question AS IF WE DID NOT ALREADY SUSPECT!!

‘The Constitution of India has vested in the Election Commission of India the superintendence, direction and control of the entire process for conduct of elections to Parliament and Legislature of every State and to the offices of President and Vice-President of India.

India’s election commission showed how to administer free and fair elections and I pray others who claim to be democracies will learn from the Indian experience! – Dr Jacob George’

This may be late in the day!

I should have responded immediately after returning from India but kudos to the Election Commission of India all the same!

Those of you who are familiar with Indian politics and have for example driven to Chennai during the last elections would have noticed the conspicuous absence of posters, banners, hoardings in the city, even though campaigning was at its peak for the April 13 elections in the state.

This is in a marked contrast from the past elections.

We all know that Tamil Nadu used to be known for its dominating, life sized cut outs of political personalities dotting the landscape at poll time. The 2011 election campaign has done away with all that, thanks to the tough stand adopted by the Election Commission of India.

In fact, I heard the distinguished SY Qureshi, the chief election commissioner not mincing his words when he called Tamil Nadu the most challenging of all elections.

Even before the polls to the five state assemblies were notified, the CEC had felt that just as “violence” would pose the big challenge in West Bengal and in Tamil Nadu it would be money power!

But I was informed by many distinguished members of the civil society that the elections that was just held was in all aspects an Election Commission’s election, not the election of the Dravidian parties!

In simple terms it was an audit and benchmarking whether the Election Commission there was dedicated, honest, independent, accountable, professional and had a dedicated yearning to promote free and fair elections in the world’s largest democracy!

That they were not plain pussies pretending to be Tigers or actually proxies and cronies of incumbents and on the take!

This last election in India was different and for example election rulings pertaining even to posters were strictly enforced what more other fundamental issues to spearhead fair and free elections!

In fact, that was not all as the Election Commission seized millions in cash after putting in place ‘flying squat’ to address corruption and abuse whenever a tip off from the members of the public came in!

I was told by the same distinguished individuals that certain extremely connected politicians became so rattled by the EC’s tough stand that the chief minister took the unprecedented stand of publicly attacking the EC for declaring what he termed as a “mini emergency” in the state!

Or for example hearing the pathetic lamentations of Home Minister P Chidambaram at the ‘absence of festivities’ in the state that an election brings.

But the message was clear when the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee came to Chennai to release the Congress party’s manifesto, skirted around the controversy, by saying that he did not want to comment on the functioning of the Election Commission, mandated by the Constitution to conduct  free and fair elections!

I concur that statement in itself was a powerful message of the things that was to come and the change in course initiated for free and fair elections in various states of India!

A senior politician told me over tea that in Tamil Nadu, to have an ordinary Inspector of Police stop the convoy of GK Vasan, senior Congress leader in Dindigul, because it had more than the permitted four cars, shows how seriously the State Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar and his team are taking their job, and even more important the extent to which they have managed to empower the officials to act independently.

The said Inspector who stopped the Congress convoy said he would have to be answerable to the EC if he allowed them.

The EC went for aggressive vehicle checking in the state and heroic stories of ordinary officials, doing their duty at considerable risk encouraged me to note that change finally came to India!

More encouraged was I hearing of another story where in Tiruchy, a woman official, a revenue division officer, equivalent to a sub divisional magistrate in the north and bear you this was her first posting had received a call in the dead of night, at around 1 am informing her of money transported in a bus. She immediately set out with her driver and office boy, picking up a couple of police inspectors on the way, and the money was found in 5 bags on top of the a bus adding up to Rs 5 crore!

There have been reports of the Chief Electoral Officer’s car being checked!

I was told that voters were encouraged that the EC had obviously got its act together even before the notification of elections.

In fact, I was told that they initiated transfers of four collectors and 6 police officials, and changed the administrative team among whom was a collector, superintendent of police and others, basically ‘ lock, stock and barrel in Madurai’ where I was told the clout of  Karunanidhi’s son, MK Azhagiri is legendary.

The new collector, for instance, did not think twice about entering the house of Azhagiri’s lieutenant and checking.

The result – massive landslides all over and in Tamil Nadu, I was happy to hear AIADMK Supremo and new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa ascribing her party’s decisive victory in the Assembly elections to 1. people’s anger against the DMK Regime and certainly 2. lauding the Election Commission (EC) for its fantastic job in ensuring a free and fair polls in the State!

Talking to reporters at her Poes Garden Residence, ‘Amma’ as I call her affectionately had expressed her sincere thanks to the EC for the fantastic job they had done.

She went on record to place her sincere appreciation for the efforts taken by the Election Commission of India to conduct a free and fair polls in Tamil Nadu and wish her sincere thanks to the EC for the fantastic job they had done!

In West Bengal, dear friend, former Union Rail Minister, the fiery no nonsense Mamata Banerjee won a landslide as well and in Kerala another great result!

In fact, the beauty in Kerala was the ousted Chief Minister was reported to have left office after his defeat on a bicycle refusing to use the official car for a drive home and agreeing to pay for whatever bill his hand phone incurred during his tenure from his pension!

That is politics of accountability!

Just imagine what the world of politics would be – IF only Election Commissions in different jurisdiction had the religious and mental courage to do the same rather than continuing to be ‘pretenders and actors’ and violating norms and betraying voters of their vote in return for various forms of gratuitous rewards and payments?

‘The is no two ways about this!

I have great respect for Premier Najib Tun Razak’s very hard work to mobilize transformation but this move by the ‘Putrajaya hawks’ and lackeys will hurt his political tenure and make nonsense of that efforts!

With GE around the corner perhaps June 9 or September 22 (?)there will be a price paid in swing votes!

In this case alone – with one stroke of a pen you criminalise the Bersih rally and by the same actions marginalize and alienate fence sitters and neutrals to swing over in sympathy and anger at the total show of force, power and abuse in a jurisdiction that is supposed to be a democracy the last time I checked the Federal Constitution!’ – Dr Jacob George

I am indeed surprised at the manner administrative and security matters are handled in Malaysia!

Even when in this case it was going to be a coming together of a mass of people who will sit down (no traction!) for two hours to demand:

1.    a clean electoral roll,

2.    reform to postal voting,

3.    the use of indelible ink,

4.    a minimum campaign period of 21 days,

5.    fair access to the media,

6.    the strengthening of public institutions,

7.    a stop to corruption, and

8.    an end to dirty politics.

So politicians, putrajaya hawks, their administrative lackeys in the civil service think that by obtaining a magistrate’s court order will prevent nationwide condemnation and public show of defiance and anger on the abuse that is so far being seen in the country?

I am surprised at show of absolute stupidity at the highest levels of administrative positions!

In any other jurisdiction, this would be allowed after serious logistics planning and undertakings from the organizers of any rally!

Here instead, it is so3 predictable, ‘bodoh sombong’ –  – from their quick fix play book:

1.   Use the mainstream media both print and electronic to run concurrent attacks, demonizing of rally participants and organizers, then

2.   Issue threats

3.   Use Religion and race

4.   Organize a series of police reports by unheard of NGOs, groups with vested interests and from political lapdogs

5.   Follow it through with a total lock down and

6.   Issue threats of arrest and when all fails

7.   Seek a court order!

And so with one stroke of a pen you criminalise the rally and by the same actions marginalize and alienate fence sitters and neutrals to swing over in sympathy and anger at the total show of force and power and abuse in a jurisdiction that is supposed to be a democracy the last time I checked the Federal Constitution!

Perhaps, a picture will say a thousand words and in this case I trust the following caption and picture says it all!

He/She who has accountability, good governance, zero tolerance for racism, corruption, abuse and all things foul in their heart cannot but act according to their GOD GIVEN CONSCIENCE!

‘As one senior politician pointed out to me and said:

‘Each time these political morons and idiots do this we lose thousands of votes nationwide by default!

It is now a culture, a norm rather than the exception to see such thuggery in action whenever there are opposition or civil society gatherings and forums!

Last week’s attack yet again on peaceful demonstrating students at the Dataran Merdeka is clear example that these attacks are being organized, financed and mobilized by a very powerful black hand (s)! ’ – Dr Jacob George

One senior international diplomat commanding great respect in the international fora said this to me last night:

‘Malaysia is experiencing a real political dilemma where you have hypocrites preaching 1Malaysia and yet cannot distinguish between duties as head of a political entity and that of the present ruling government!

I acknowledge that there are characters, finch groups similar these political thugs and shenanigans in the US and certainly, Europe!

We are not proud of the Neo-Nazis or the Ku Klux Klan, the skin heads, the fascist and other white supremacy groups either.

But here these groups are looked down upon, rejected by mainstream political parties, the civil society, the police and law enforcement groups and agencies.

But in Malaysia you were all well respected once!

But now based on all recent attacks either in Selangor, Johor, Pahang, Penang or Perak rightly or wrongly, the wide perception here among the diplomatic community, rightly or wrongly,  is your thugs and extremist operate with the full financial and moral backing and encouragement of a dominant political party!’

I now fully agree that if mainstream politicians, war lords and political shenanigans think they are doing the federal government and Barisan Nasional (BN) a favour with such childish, thuggish and violent provocation stunts they are sadly mistaken!

As one senior BN politician pointed out to me:

‘Each time these political morons and idiots do this we lose thousands of votes nationwide by default!’

It is now a culture, a norm rather than the exception to see such thuggery in action whenever there are opposition or civil society gatherings and forums!

They now burn pictures of prominent social activists, throw cocktails bombs on opponents homes, cars, they throw stones, disturb and disrupt gatherings, they shout vulgarities!

And so I am not the lest surprised at the embarrassing and thuggish behavior of over 50 morons at the Penang leg of solidarity gatherings for the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally in Kuantan which saw – disruptions!

The hostile group have been identified and I am now advised that there are photo evidence and recording that clearly identifies the individuals!

I will now SMS Penang’s top cop a dear friend informing him that this is an embarrassment when no such behavior was ever recorded elsewhere!

Perhaps their ‘identity crisis’ and loss of free flowing income for doing nothing has hurt the mental thinking capacity of these morons to think constructively at the damage they are inflicting on Premier Najib Tun Razak political agenda prior GE13!

It is sad and regrettable that Himpunan Hijau supporters gathering at the Penang Esplanade were met by this hostile group.

When one cannot win arguments and lays exposed as a fraud – they send in the goons, the thugs, the racists and the ultras to muddy the waters and turn it into a class or race war!

They began provoking, inciting, uttering seditious utterances, vulgarities to create turmoil!

Two journalist were assaulted and this is not the first time such behavior has been recorded!

NONEPoliticians should realize that engaging or employing thugs to disrupt peaceful assembly will only reinforce the will of the people to lead and live change. It is encouraging to witness increased consciousness and the willingness of people of all racial and religious persuasions to now voice their feelings and opinions in the open without any fear anymore!

Basically it is this – the more these rascals and hooligans disrupt civil liberties and the attacks go viral as it has, even in the international media – , the more resolute will the Malaysian voters, even those sitting on the fence and many cases, some supporters reject Barisan Nasional in the next general election unless action is taken on them!

Failing which BN will be rejected!
